Cosplay Wigs - Bringing Your Costume Roleplay Up to the Ultimate

If you are a aficionado of Cosplay which is a term referring to costume roleplaying, you will want to get fully into character. Most of the cosplay proponents will be this that are interested in things like Naruto, Final Fantasy, and other anime subjects.
They want to get into these characters, and unless you have the time to grow hair that is 3 feet long and soft as silk you are going to be looking for a cosplay wig.
Cosplayers are always looking for the best way to appear as the characters they are most interested in. If they are trying to look like Naruto, they will be getting the proper weapons and clothing, and doing something to make their hair approximate to that of this hero.
For anyone that has seen Naruto they know that this is by far, not your normal hair preparation. If you were to grow your hair to match, sure you would be the star of your cosplay group, it would look a little unusual at the next meeting with your co-workers. Therefore you need to consider other ideas, and that is what cosplay wigs were designed for. Not only that, these high quality wigs are going to more accurately represent the final example of the character that you are trying to portray.

Most of the cosplay groups are going to re-enact their favorite scenes, and when it comes time for that do you really want to be wondering if the hairdo that you are sporting really represents the character you are trying to portray. There is really something to be said for the status increase you will feel when you are wearing a professionally prepared cosplay wig when you are with the other cosplayers. There are a lot of subjects that are covered in the anime realm.

You can find many characters that are of interest.
The more outlandish a character the more likely someone is going to want to dress up as that character.

The simple characters are just not so fun to portray.
We suggest if you are going to be part of the cosplay society, that you might as well do it to the ultimate.
Therefore the best thing you can do is find supplies that will remake you into the image of your hero or villain.
We thing that having a cosplay wig to add to your image of that favored character is something that can only make you a star among your fellows while being able to step away from that role later and have a normal life.

Like the superheroes of old there are times you are going to want to not have to live up to your hero's image, Sometimes it is good to be just Joe Normal.

When it is time to become your cosplay-favored character we suggest you get a wig to match that character, so you can step into that character totally. And when the event you dressed up for is over, it will be just as easy to step back out of character as well. Enjoy your Cosplay experience!

Science Bee Awards for Students

Last year, our wonderfully innovative fifth grade teachers came up with the idea of holding a Science Bee, with the winning student receiving creative awards made from basic science supplies.

The winner's award pack included: laboratory goggles, a composition notebook, a magnifying glass and a pencil.

Since the items were just standard materials, I was given the task of transforming them into fun, flashy tools that the kids could get excited about. With just 48 hours to complete my mission, I brainstormed design ideas for the four items, then scoured the house for anything that would complete each of my visions.

Here is how I transformed basic school supplies into Science Bee awards: Laboratory Goggles: Vision - To make the goggles look like they are covered in flawless diamonds, since diamonds are among the most valued natural minerals found in the environment.

Using clear, plastic crystal rocks and hot glue, I covered every part of the goggles, with the exception of the elastic band that holds them in place or any other part that comes in direct contact with the student.
Note: The clear, crystal rocks can be found at most craft stores, a few of which include: Hobby Lobby and Michael's.

Composition Notebook: Vision - To transform the bland, gray cover into the dark universe, while highlighting our solar system.
Using leftover rubber balls and plastic bracelets from children's party bags, I determined which of the balls would best represent the coloring and relative size of the sun as well as each of our 8 planets.

Next, I cut the balls in half with a kitchen knife, then hot glued them starting with the sun in the top, left corner of the cover, followed by each planet in their respective order. I gave Saturn its rings by hot gluing on the plastic bracelets and completed the cover by outlining it with the clear rocks to give it that extra "bling." Magnifying Glass: Vision - To transform this tool into a reminder of the student's younger years when they would study bugs in nature using a magnifying glass.

Obtaining a river rock from my yard, I placed it in the grass, far away from windows, cars, or kids, then broke it in half with a hammer. Note: Even though I did not have any problems with breaking the rock in this way, I don't recommend it. I then hot glued a flat shard to the handle of the magnifying glass. Next, I found leftover black spiders from a past Halloween project and hot glued one on top of the rock.
Pencil: Vision - To transform this basic supply into a strand of DNA that could retract in length, as the pencil needed sharpening. With a blue and a red pipe cleaner, I wrapped the pencil starting at the top, intertwining them like a braid as I made my way to the bottom.

It only took a few hours to transform these four basic supplies into fun Science Bee awards, and from the feedback I received, they were a hit. Here's to another Inspired Minute!

What Are the Benefits of an After School Program For Kids?

As our kids enter middle-school, finding activities to keep them busy becomes increasingly important.

Activities allow for children to explore interests and hobbies, develop social skills, and in a good program, learn critical independent skills in a safe and monitored environment. While most parents are concerned about the safety of their children, and may think monitoring their kids as much as possible is best, keeping them home after school may not be the best option. There are some advantages to letting middle school kids participate in clubs and sport teams after school.
One of the main benefits of an after school program is that your children will learn how to interact with their peers - children their one age in a comfortable and monitored school setting. With adult or teenage monitors, these programs can be a great way for kids with different backgrounds to get together and develop a new skill or hobby.
By learning a new skill or hobby and meeting a broader range of social acquaintances, your middle-school child will boost their confidence and self-esteem.

Excelling at a sport, or a creative hobby, or simply being a key player in an after school project will teach your child she can accomplish anything, even if it seems difficult.
And when your child is self-confident then this will sill over into other aspects of her life - like school work.

This can be an effective tool in teaching her the value of goal setting and learning how to achieve things without being pushed. Another great benefit of afterschool programs for middle-schoolers are the health benefits.
After school programs are inherently more active than watching TV or playing video games.

More physical activities for kids will allow them to get a better night's sleep, and may help prevent obesity.

You can contact your local government or school for a listing of afterschool programs in your area and discuss the options with your child to see what may appeal the most to her - not every girl is into sports, so don't be push her towards one thing based on your own preferences - any organized after school activity provides great esteem benefits to your daughter.

Popular Teaching Degrees Online

The field of education offers numerous choices and employment avenues.
This is particularly true of the teaching profession where teachers can choose the student audience they intend to teach as well as the subjects they are going to impart knowledge. Teachers can teach at different levels such preschool, elementary school, middle school, high school and of course, college level. Apart from subject level teaching such as Mathematics or Biology, there are also opportunities for adult literacy teachers or ESL teachers.
Careers can span roles such as tutors, assistants and class room aides for those who are foraying into the teaching discipline.

Experienced teachers can complete the appropriate programs to move into areas such as researchers, curriculum specialists, counselors, writers and day care administrators. Training degrees span Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programs available through online and offline channels.
A Bachelor degree is usually for 3-4 years whereas Master and Doctoral degrees last 2 years.

They also require dissertation and internships under the guidance of experienced educators. Importantly, a Bachelor's degree in Teaching or its equivalent is a must to enter into the teaching profession.
A Bachelor degree such as Bachelor of Fine Arts in Education and Teaching or Teacher license usually covers child development and learning, educational psychology, pedagogical techniques, classroom management, curriculum design and assessment and trends in K-12 education. A Master's degree offers enhanced career and salary prospects apart from the fact that some states may prescribe it as a minimal expectation.

Course work may include advanced study into program development, curriculum design and development.
The program is intended to also prepare educators for leadership and administrative roles.

License requirements apply for any teaching position and this varies based on the state where you are teaching.

As part of the License requirements, potential teachers need to successfully complete a teacher training program involving supervised practice teaching.
They also need to qualify in the state administered examinations.
Though a Bachelor's degree is sufficient in most states to start the ball rolling for your teaching career, yet some states may specifically require a Master's degree in Teaching.
In some cases, such states may either provide the option of acquiring the Master's degree upfront before beginning your teaching career or alternatively, may prescribe that you complete the same within a set period, usually within a few years.

If you already possess a Bachelor's degree in another discipline, then you may not need to undergo a Bachelor degree in Teaching.
Instead, you may just need to go through a one year teacher training program to ensure that the licensing requirement is met successfully.

Career outlook for licensed teachers is strong with job growth of 12% forecasted through 2016 by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Salaries are fairly lucrative and are largely dependent on the level of education, experience, location and employer.

K-12 teachers averaged in the range of $50,040-$52,450 in 2007. Niche and in-demand areas such as teachers in Mathematics also attract higher salaries and greater employment prospects.

When I Grow Up

The wisdom of kids is undeniable.
Often, we as parents like to pride ourselves with the knowledge we will one day have passed onto our kids, but what about the knowledge they already possess? When was the last time you thought about the wisdom your child can share with you.

Children have such an innocent outlook on the world and life, and it is amazing to see just how much they have already figured out over their relatively short life of just four, six, eight, and 11 years. Relax, enjoy, and maybe even learn a few things, as these kids answer the age old quandary, When I grow up.

..

" I want to be the first lady president of the United States.

"- Emma, age 11 " I want to be a doctor.

I will help sick kids.
I will give them shots.

I want them to be happy"- Cynthia, age 7 " I want to be a vet and an artist. I like to make pictures. I want to be a teacher and teach kids. I want to be a doctor and a nurse.
"- Jessica, age 9 " I will help take care of the dogs and cats. I want to be a vet.

I want to help make them better."- Peyton, age 10 " I want to be a princess.

" - Megan, age 3 " Maybe I can be a doctor, or an artist (like I am) and, maybe I could be a vet, so I could help animals feel better, and I would probably like to be builder or maybe music player or..
..

well that's I think all I want to be for now" - Emma, age 6 " I want to be a rapper or something because it just seems fun.
I want to be a MacDonald's guy so I can eat lots of food.

MBA in HR - A Good Option For Higher Learning

In online MBA courses we learn about the relationship between strategy, structure, and HRM. In particular, we will look at the tendency, prevalent through the 1980s and into the 1990s, to decentralize responsibilities and focus activities on smaller units in order to increase motivation and entrepreneurialism, while sharpening up efficiency.
We will look at how decentralization affects: Structures for pay bargaining and industrial relations The operation of internal labor markets Corporate culture The organization of the personnel function Finally, we will consider how firms have tried to manage the conflicts between centralization and decentralization in recruiting, retaining, and developing people, and in managing their overall resource needs. Strategy and structure in large organization One factor in many ways should actually be the starting point for understanding pressures for centralization/ decentralization.

Company philosophy, managerial beliefs, and history explain much about the pace and vigor with which decentralization is pursued.
At the same time, training strategies are driven by business strategy and the competitive environment.

In Online MBA in Human Resource, we know how the link between strategy and training works out, though, is another matter.

In one year executive MBA, we have cautioned against the notion of simple direct link and the fallacy of over-integrated human resource plans.
These are likely to remain valid only on paper. Human resource planning needs to be flexible linked to business strategy, and training needs to remain to some extent reactive.
Thus, in online MBA course we found the time horizons for training decisions varied enormously, covering: Ad hoc requests Annual budgeting, on the basis of forecasts of labor turnover, recruitment, and promotion Commitments to major projects, which themselves can vary up to five years ahead Commitments to groups of employees, such as graduates, which involve a view of skills needs up to five years ahead and beyond Long-term manpower plans, such as in the health service where length of training, the numbers involved, careers commitments, and resources require careful planning All these will be explained in last semesters of Online MBA in HR in the sense of being driven by business need.

Meanwhile, on an annual basis, individual training needs arising from the appraisal process have also to be slotted in. This variety of practice fits with the view in one year executive MBA course that strategy can operate according to different timescales. At the other end of the planning process, there remains the question of evaluation.

Thomas Roundhouse Set Makes the Perfect Gift

The Thomas Roundhouse Set by Learning Curve has got to be one of the best gifts any lucky little engineer could find under their tree.
Popular with both Grandparents and Santa, this deluxe set offers everything every little train fan needs to build countless wooden railway layouts for years (and generations) to come. Thomas the Tank Engine is one of the most popular brands for preschool boys. The stories were created in 1942 by British Reverend W. Awdry to entertain his sick child, Christopher.
Years later, Christopher would add to his father's popular Railway Series.

The stories would later make their way into a popular TV series that has shown on PBS in the United States for many years.
Many toys, books and DVDs have been created based upon this popular little blue engine and his railway friends. The Thomas Roundhouse Set (LC99544) is the premiere set in the Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends Wooden Railway Series.
Made of hardwood, the trains, tracks, and destinations are designed to last for many years of play. Many families have chosen to put the toys aside for their children's children to play with someday - so genuine Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway can be hard to find secondhand! The set includes some popular characters including: Thomas the Tank Engine, Henry, Bertie the Bus, Rusty with Dumper and Cement Mixer, Duke with Coal Car, Skarloey, and the Sodor Line Caboose.
In addition to the kid-pleasing Roundhouse, the set includes the Round-About Action Turntable, several bridges, a Water Tower, an Over the Track Signal and the Stop & Go Station.

Add all the tracks (over 60 pieces) and you have enough to keep your engineer happy and busy! The set comes packaged in a special wooden decorative toy box designed to look just like Thomas, with a cover that doubles as a padded seat cushion.

The 2010 version of this popular set has been renamed "The Tidmouth Sheds Deluxe Set", but don't be confused, Tidmouth Sheds is just the more formal name for the Roundhouse on the Island of Sodor. The set is the same, just with the updated paint job on the Roundhouse. The set comes with a pre-designed layout diagram, but many preschoolers will want to build their own layouts.

The Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends Wooden Railway system is designed to be completely modular - build it in endless configurations.
It is completely compatible with other Thomas Wooden Railway products so it's easy to add to your collection over the years. In addition, the components are compatible with other major wooden railway brands so you can mix and match with BRIO and other manufacturers.
The layout is designed to fit exactly on the popular playboards and tables, but many people choose to build on the floor to make way for expansion. However you choose to build, this set will provide hours and years of fun for any Thomas fan.

Get Help When Searching for Affordable Online Colleges

Affordable online colleges can be found all over the place, which is nice for those looking for a place to gain their college education.
The hardest part is finding the right one for your needs. You need to consider your financial budget, your degree, whether it is accredited and the time in which you complete the degree. If you are new to the search, thankfully there are people available that can help you with the process. Whether it is a school guidance counselor or an online site that directs you to certain places, this can provide you with suggestions or help you eliminate some of the possibilities.

The main thing to look for in affordable online colleges is if they are legit.

There are a few online campuses that are considered diploma mills or scams, trying to get people's well-earned money. They don't really provide an education, which is another reason you need to research your options. This will protect you from getting yourself in an unfortunate situation.
Many people say you should also make sure your program is accredited, as this is an aspect some employers are concerned about.
To make sure you aren't docked while looking for a job or discover that none of your classes transfer on, it will help to have your program accredited by the government.

Another reason why it is nice to have help during the process is you have an outsider's perspective on what you want out of life.

They can direct you and provide advice in ways sometimes others cannot. Some of the places might even help you fill out the applications, so you know they were all completed correctly.
Affordable online colleges are excellent ways for someone to get a valuable education.

Research what you specifically want and go from there.

One Tree Hill Spoiler and the College Conundrum

Teen dramas, or any show that begins in high school, have always been a staple of prime time television.
These shows acquire rabid and loyal fan bases and speak to the millions of teenagers in the country.
However, the age old dilemma always ops up after a few seasons: How do you move the show on to high school? This question is always answered in different, yet wholly unsatisfying ways. The show will often transplant the entire cast to one college campus.

Not only is the implausible, but silly. It takes away momentum and forces an influx of new characters.

The essence of a show is entirely lost. Another option for the high school transition is to have everyone go their own ways. This is the more realistic avenue, but it does little to retain whatever it is that made the show popular in the first place. Long-distance relationships between characters loses the immediacy of high school. The show, again, will lose momentum and the conflicts between beloved characters start to dissipate.

What One Tree Hill plans on doing is both new and refreshing.

They plan to skip five years into the future and pick up after everyone has finished school. This allows so much more freedom to the writers while placing the characters back in the same venue. The plan will implemented by Mark Schwahn, creator of One Tree Hill for the fifth season of that show. Although risky, the other options, as stated above, are not very appealing.
Why wouldn't a TV show try something different if none of the past options ever worked out? What ends up happening on One Tree Hill remains to be seen, but we do know that whatever does happen, it will be unique.

Gaming and Addiction

So, you have a child that plays on the computer all day and night long. Of course you get worried when you see that that's all he/she does.
But here's the big question, how do you reach out to that person without making more damage than good? When a person is playing a game, he/she is probably much focused on the game at that moment, especially when playing games like World of Warcraft or Counter-Strike.
Trying to interrupt them and trying to speak with them might be very difficult, in other words trying to reach out to them might be very difficult so you probably are considering some desperate measures such as unplugging the cable. Before you do something like that just try another approach.

For example, we have a situation where the dinner is soon about to be ready.
Instead of waiting for the dinner to get ready and telling your child that, go to his/her room now and then and tell him/her that the dinner will be ready in say one hour, and after 30 minutes you go there again and say it will be ready in 30 minutes. Why is an approach like this important? It's matter of psychology and mentality, if you prepare your child, which is telling him/her that dinner is about to be ready so get ready, that will give the little gamer some time to finish up the game the way he/she want and that does a great effect on him/her. The point is to slowly make the gamer ready and if this approach continues the little gamer will most likely automatically get ready in the future, because it's going to get worked in as a routine if done correctly.
Reaching out to gamers might sometimes be very difficult thing to do. They got their headphones on and focusing on the computer monitor like nothing before.
Taking the right approach could sometimes be very critical, rather building a great bridge of communication between you than destroying one. This is one of the many ways that people should consider.

What Sport Should My Kid Play?

I have a four year old son. He is very physically active and has great motor skills. Far better at most sports they I was at his age.
Most of our friends have their children in sports and like most "soccer moms" they drive from event to event - especially on the weekends.
We tagged along to a few soccer games and a number of things struck me during and after the games.

The most obvious was that there were plenty of kids there who would have rather been somewhere else and who's parents were the excited part of the group.

There were also parents yelling and carrying on.
At their kids no less. This is not right I thought, I have to take a look at this.

By now you are saying "this guy must have been watching a game in some rough side of town" but nothing could be further from the truth.

No the problem was not to be found in the surroundings or in the kids for the matter.
It was to be found in the parents and their approach at the game.

I would be a great blessing if someone would write the "how to get your kids into sports handbook - parents edition".
I could hand them out by the box. Here is the basic problem.

Is the kid doing a sport because you expect him/her to, or because they have a great amount of fun when then play? Simple enough question right? Well I asked 10 parents after the game and all of them said, "oh he loves it".

"Are you sure?" I would ask, "how can you tell?".
I got some blank looks and some laughed.

"We know out kids", were the most common answer.
Did they I thought.
I next asked the kids one by one, what they liked about the game they just played. I got some rather interesting answers to be sure.
"my friend Tommy was here", "I scored so daddy will be happy", "I wanted to go home, by belly hurt but I had to play".

Had to play? Why? I asked. "My big brother played and I have to do everything he did".
OK now I had something to talk about.
Lets take a look at why we have our kids in sports at all.

Outdoor activity Keeps the physically active Builds strong bodies Builds self confidence Kids have fun Something we can do together I am sure there are more reasons but these came up more often then any other in my little survey. In this case it was soccer but in the case of Hockey the outdoor element is obviously removed. None the less I feel that the parents intent here was to make the kid get out of the house, not to just be out doors.

I mean it that was the case, make him run around the house a few laps.
Keeping the child active is a great idea and with so many children being fatter then ever I am all for it.
Again though, it that was all we could take a walk with them or ride our bikes.

Why sports? Building of the bodies is true to an extent, but it can also be too much for a child. We have to make sure it is done with moderation.

Self confidence.
Now here is something I hear all the time. Sure when the kid is good at what they do and when they feel they can overcome problems by trying harder that is good, but what will happen to a 4 year old child who fails? We will get back to this is a moment.
Kids have fun.

I should hope so, but I saw a few who did not and there are some reasons why.

And lastly, we do something together. Something we can both enjoy and be excited about.
Fair enough, so long as that is not a one way street.
Lets break down these arguments further.
What will motivate us to chose a sport for our children? Our own experience usually.
Did we play something as kids.
Were we good? I see parents projecting themselves onto their kids by first choosing the sport, then expecting allot from the kids.
Often more then they can deliver.

I saw a man in a part once who was throwing a softball to a very small buy, maybe 5 years old. The boy kept missing and missing and all the man said was "come on, try!". The buy tried and failed. Tried and failed. he started crying and his father said "there is no crying in baseball, now hit the ball".
I was ready to take the father aside and show him my size 12 shoe but I thought better of it. We can all see what he did wrong, but can we see a lesser example of the same? Are we doing it maybe without knowing it.
Perhaps.

We as humans learn much faster from failure then success so make sure you arrange for your children to succeed the first few times you do something with them.
Positive thinking.
If they fail anyway, change the thing you are doing until they succeed.

I kicked a soccer ball to my son and although he could kick it back, he chose to pick it up with his hands.

Instead of telling him that picking it up was bad and thus make the whole thing negative, I showed him how he could throw the ball to my foot and then I did the same. Soon the ball was back on the ground and we were playing like normal.
They don't know the rules, they just want to succeed and they measure that success by your reaction and your praise.
If they don't have any fun with something or just plain can't do it, move on to something else. Do not push them into some sport because that is what you wanted to do.

Let them show you what they want. Expose them to several and observe them.

Are they quick at picking up the rules? Can they do it will? In the end it is most important that they have fun.

They have fun if you are proud of them and if they are allowed to succeed.

Give them every means to do so and let them lead the way.

Not every kid will like soccer because his brother did.
Let him chose for himself.

That builds confidence.

Inexperienced drivers are more likely to make mistakes and 70% of accidents that result in injury, death and/or property damage are caused by human error. 1. Distractions cause accidents.
Limit the number of passengers allowed to ride with your teen. 2.

Teens love to listen to music but iPods or MP3 connected to their car stereo encourage them to take their eyes off the road. Glancing down, even for a few moments to change the song, can lead to disaster. 3. GPS devices are a great way to keep your teen from being lost but entering destination information while travelling is unsafe.

Ensure the GPS device is set to 'safe mode' that only allows input when the vehicle is not in motion.

4. Texting and talking on the phone are major distractions. Insist all cell phones be turned off while driving.
The temptation to "just see who is calling" is too great, and even glancing down to read the call display takes a driver's attention off the road.
Check with your cell phone provider, there are applications that can be downloaded to some cell phones that detect motion and automatically tells all incoming texts and calls that the driver is unavailable.
5. Speeding reduces the time a driver has to react to dangers. Talk to your teen about safe driving speeds.
If you still have concerns consider installing a GPS tracking device that reads the vehicles travelled routes and speeds.

This information can be downloaded from the device on to your home computer (GPS tracking may not be legal in all states).
Live GPS tracking is also available with special monitors, or through some cell phone service providers. 6.

Driving late at night offers additional challenges for new drivers.

Besides reduced visibility falling asleep at the wheel is also a risk. Many states restrict the hours that new drivers are allowed to be on the road.
If your state does not consider making your own rule about when your teen driver is allowed to be driving. 7.

Most collisions occur within 25 miles of home.
Show your teens the high risk intersections and areas close to home and on routes they travel frequently.

8.

40% of accidents happen at intersections, 25% of these are fatal. Making a left hand turn onto a busy street without the benefit of traffic lights should be avoided.

Show your teen detour routes that will get them onto these busy streets without having to make a dangerous left turn.

9.

Wearing seat belts increase the chances of surviving a collision by over 50%. Insist they be worn at all times.

10.

Set a good example.
Follow the same safe driving rules that you would like your teen to follow.

A good driver training class and plenty of practice time with a parent is critical to learning safe driving habits.

Talking to your teen about driving and staying safe is critical to learning safe driving attitudes.

Kid Outdoor Playhouses - Find Out What Makes Children Tick!

My Great Grandmother had a kid outdoor playhouse that we spent many hours in.
Recalling those care-free and fun childhood years still makes me laugh! Thinking back to the little things that entertained us, we could care less about expensive stuff! A little mud, some worms, and some of Grandma's old baking pans was all it took to entertain us for hours.

Old cooking pans, a muffin tin, spoons and bowls were some of the fun we had in our kid's outdoor playhouse.
Don't worry, if you don't have any older kitchen tools, rummage sales or asking grandmas and grandpas are an excellent help! They oftentimes enjoy cleaning out their clutter from years prior! It's a good idea to specify to children what can and cannot go outside into the kid's outdoor playhouse. Let them take an older doll, and a couple sets of clothes.
Playing house can be a lot of fun with friends! Making it very clear what stays in the house and what can go into the kid's outdoor playhouse will help them to understand what need to stay in the playhouse. Doing so will keep some of the dirt and grime out of your home! Homemade play dough is another very cheap and fun way to help them create their own fun in the kid's outdoor playhouse.

I would suggest making 2-3 batches of colorful homemade play dough. If you've got flour, salt, water, oil and cream of tarter, a couple colors of food coloring you can easily whip up a couple batches in just a few minutes: Play dough recipe: 1.

4 Cups of flour 2.

1 Cup of Salt 3.
4 Cups of Water 4. 4 Tablespoons Oil 5.
1/2 Cup Cream of tarter 6. You're preference of food coloring! Mix all ingredients into a saucepan.
Cook and stir over low/medium heat until play dough is completely formed and no longer sticky. Allow to cool for a few minutes before storing in a zip lock bag or Tupperware container.

This recipe is kid friendly should they decide to eat it! Eating is not recommended, but it does happen! Feel free to give them old cookie cutters.

Encourage them to use their imagination in their kids outdoor playhouse and make play dough cookies, meals for their doll or just have fun making their own creations! It is recommended to teach children to clean up after themselves! It may be traumatic, but the play dough will dry out if it's not put away. Putting away their toys is not hard or time consuming, but it does teach them responsibility at an early age.
Regardless of what you implement into your kid's outdoor playhouse, you'll be bound to create a place they can go to that's out of the sun, safe and will entertain them! Those fun summer days will lead to many wonderful childhood memories with cousins, friends and of course their brother or sister in the kid's outdoor playhouse!

What Are the Different Types of Computers?

These days, computers are described using many different terms.
In most cases, simply the capability, the expected use or the size of the computer is implied. However, what most of us do not know is that there are actually different types of computers. Types of Computers 1.
PC A computer designed to be used by a single person is defined as a personal computer (PC).

While a Mac is a personal computer, systems running the Windows OS are considered PCs by most people.
Initially, personal computers were referred to as microcomputers because they were complete computers with a smaller size.
The Apple iPad is a perfect example of a modern PC.

2. Desktop A desktop computer is a personal computer that is not designed to be portable.
Generally, desktop computers are set up in permanent locations.
In comparison to portable computers, more versatility, storage and power is offered by most desktop computers for a lesser price.
3.

Laptop Laptops, also known as notebooks, are small-sized portable computers can be placed on the lap and used there.

The display, hard drive, keyboard, memory, processor, and a trackball or point device are integrated in a battery-operated package.

4. Netbook Netbooks are also portable computers but they are much smaller than typical laptops.
In comparison to brand-new laptops that can be found at retail outlets, netbooks are much cheaper, usually starting from $300 to $500.

However, the internal components of netbooks are not as powerful as those in most laptops.

5.
PDA PDAs or Personal Digital Assistants are integrated computers that do not use a hard drive but instead, use flash memory for storage.
These are touchscreen devices and do not have keyboards. Typically, PDAs are very lightweight, smaller than a paperback novel and have a decent battery life. The handheld computer is a slightly heavier and larger version of the PDA.

6.

Workstation A workstation is another type of computer. A workstation is just a desktop computer with additional memory, a more powerful processor, and enhanced capabilities to perform a special group of task, like game development, or 3D graphics.
7.

Server Servers are computers that have been optimized to provide services over a network to other computers.
Usually, servers have large hard drives, lots of memory and powerful processors.

8.

Mainframe At one time, mainframes used to be computers that were so huge they would fill a whole room or even an entire floor.

As the power of computers has increased while their size has decreased, mainframe computers are now referred to as enterprise servers.

9.

Supercomputer The price of a supercomputer can be anywhere from hundreds or thousands to millions of dollars. Majority of supercomputers comprise of multiple high-performance computers that work in parallel as one single system.

Cray Supercomputers have built the well-known supercomputers. 10.

Wearable Computer Wearable computers are a latest computing trend.
Today, typical computer applications, like calendar/scheduler, database, e-mail and multimedia have been integrated into cell phones, clothing, visors and watches.
You might have heard of some of these computers, and you might even be one or some of these types in your home.
Then again, you also might not have heard of some types of computers mentioned here.

Nurse Practitioners and the Challenges Faced by Them

Today, the medical field is one of the fastest growing industries all over the world and along with this, grows the demand for doctors, nurses and other medical assistants who make up the medical field.
Nursing practitioners (NP) are those nurses, who are graduates in advanced nursing practice.
These people are supposed to have completed the training program for the nurse practitioners in some medical clinic or health centre and should also have good knowledge and experience in assessing, diagnosing, as well as treating any disease.

These practitioners nurse are expected to provide good care to the patients, whatever be the disease they are suffering from. The challenges posed for the Practitioners of nurse are many.
One of the biggest challenges is the requirement for a very progressive and flexible approach in the case of the care given to each patient. This is because almost half of the work of the physicians is to be taken care of by such trained and expert nurse practitioners.

Hence, they should have the ability to interact well with others in the medical field and handle the work efficiently, with a leadership quality. This holds more relevance in the case of areas crowded with lower class people, who do not have the financial ability to go for general physicians often. In such cases, nurses are expected to give them medical advice, diagnose the disease of patients and help to cure it.

They are also responsible for monitoring the condition of people with some severe illness, and treating them appropriately, along with prescribing the necessary medicines and giving advices on health, nutrition etc.

Getting an awareness of the seriousness of the profession, and learning the difference and the importance of the profession from other health field professions is one of the biggest challenges for any nursing staff.

The training program for the nurse practitioners is meant to give this awareness and improve their skills in diagnosis, counselling, providing emotional support, case management, research, audit etc.

The practise regulation and the ability to prescribe medicines for the patients are the two important barriers for Nurse Practitioners. If they were allowed to prescribe medicines for the patients, the number of patients for each doctor would come down naturally! Hence, the doctor's organisation is totally against letting the nurse practitioners start prescribing medicines for various diseases. The argument they put forward is that no training can make nurse practitioners efficient enough to treat diseases and prescribe medicines. They claim that only very little training is given in the training programs.
But today, the training programs for nurse practitioners are increasing as well as improving in their standards, so that each nurse who completes the course can take up the responsibilities efficiently.
There is a standard quality of care given to the patients, expected from every nurse practitioner.
Though the public respects and accepts them, it is the medical organisations that are against promoting their growth.

In the near future, this will also change, owing to the increasing demand in the medical field.

Puppetry Exercises With Musical Choral Speech Are a Tool to Enhance Memory and Learning Proficiency

Today, there are many brain exercise programs online that expect the client to have the motivation and interest to stay focused with an often tedious program.
Many are random visual figure exercises to learn a series of images.
The various types of visual and listening memory are not often over-viewed, and, what is presented are visual memory exercises that are difficult to complete for both the learner and instructor. What is obviously missing from this paradigm is the crucial "listening-auditory memory" facet. Researchers have long written that auditory memory must couple with visual memory for the learner to understand or comprehend new information. Auditory/listening memory exercises must accompany the visual ones, and obtain effective results in the process. This challenge becomes a complex measurement and evaluation process to discover what is effective and works with all learning levels and capabilities.

Following years of test-train-testing iterations, puppets have been found to be an engaging, differentiating tool.
To teach rapid auditory-visual memory, and to make the training palatable and exciting, I engaged a family of historical vaudevillian ventriloquist puppets that taught sequential learning to children age 9, up to the adult learner, who appreciated "the Charlie McCarthy - Edgar Bergen retro Hollywood radio days".

Puppet characters must be carefully chosen as actors are for a play.

Becoming an effective learning tool, we can learn from speaking puppets, but only when uniquely presented, are programmed effectively, and engage the learner. Students are taught how to interact and respond effectively.
Subsequently, it can not be "any puppet, with any instructional purpose, or with any filmed procedure", but should have a specific rationale and lesson objective in mind. Puppet characters offer the following beneficial qualities: 1) They offer a non-threatening, stress free, fun-like presence, and can become a "family affair" for the learning process. The learner remains in an abstract "one-up" position.

Although they can challenge your capabilities to the next level, they do not intimate. When they back-talk, you are not personally offended, as they have become your friend.

2) Their messages are rapidly understood.
For example, they have been used in political cartoons and comic strips for decades.
3) Their vocal intonations penetrate the memory system for learning new material.

Always be selective when reviewing various memory exercise options. There must be a specific, time-and trial-tested inherent methodology, especially when engaging puppetry as a learning tool.
Specifically designed exercises, according to scientific cognitive theory practice, can improve our memory uniquely and easily.

We can learn visual and auditory factual names, words, and sequential memories, as in learning technical procedures, having jumped past outdated, rote memory systems. And, if we find that if we utilize puppet characters, and find that they give us "guff" as we learn new information, we really do not mind!

Perform, Achieve and Trade: PAT Mechanism Targeting Efficiencies

Background Arguments are ongoing among developed and developing countries on the carbon emission caps and responsibilities thereof.

One side gives reason that developing countries are the most carbon emitting countries, as such, and there has to be their responsibility to bring back the carbon levels to mutually agreed levels.

On the other hand, developing countries justify their stand by saying that developed countries have more carbon emitting intensities (per capita carbon emissions), in addition, control on carbon emissions by employing costly technologies will hamper the growth of these countries and will benefit the technology sourcing countries.

In the long run, prior emissions of developed countries may not justify the ungoverned carbon emission by developing countries. Thus, developing countries in the leadership of India have put forward another model, where targets are to be set for the increasing efficiencies or reducing the Specific Energy Consumption, which ultimately will reduce the carbon emissions, instead of targeting the carbon emissions, directly.

This approach will encourage the industries or energy intensive units to enhance the efficiencies and reducing carbon emissions without hindering development opportunities.

Perform, Achieve and Trade Perform, Achieve and Trade or PAT, is a country's internal market mechanism for promoting efficiencies.
There have been identified Designated Consumers or DCs (energy intensive industries or facilities), which will have to comply with these efficiency targets.

During the first, Target setting phase, efficiency targets, in terms of reduction in Specific Energy Consumption, SEC, and compliance period is to be set.
These targets will depend on the existing efficiencies of the facilities, thus vary from unit to unit.
Transparent mechanism will ensure that no negotiations happen during this step. Durationof one PAT cycle has been identified as three years.

During this period, the DC has to make effort and comply to achieve the set targets.

In case, the unit over-performs and reduces the SEC to the limit below the target, they will be issues bankable and marketable Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts). On the other hand, if the unit, under performs to achieve its set targets, it either has to pay penalties or to purchase the ESCerts from the market, which would be controlled by Power Exchanges.

Monitoring and verification of energy savings will be conducted by Designated Energy Auditors (DENAs), again through transparent systems.

One Energy Saving Certificate (ESCert) will be equal to reduction of 1 Tonn of Oil equivalent (TOE) and its market prize may vary according to oil prices and other related aspects including market forces.
The unit will be able to trade the banked ESCerts in the next PAT cycle also.

However to keep the ESCerts available in the market, units will be able to bank the ESCerts only upto certain limit of their total savings (20-25%).

There Is No Race

We live in a world where there is such a thing as a "tiger mom.
" A world where one of the hottest, lower-budget documentary movies is "Race to Nowhere.
" A world where just a few miles from here two teenage students at a local high school committed suicide because of pressure at school. At once this incited me to link these three captivating events together and ask a fundamental question: when will the madness cease? What kind of world could we create from this place? A Race to Nowhere provided several perspectives on the academic, social and emotional "wellness" of several students ranging from 4th grade to seniors from various schools throughout the country, some of them nearby.

Expert witnesses on the film included PhDs from Stanford, physicians, teachers, psychologists and psychiatrists, parents and actual students. The theme: schools are becoming places of stress-physical, social, emotional. The symptoms: kids who have no exposure to leisure, the outdoors, time with friends; kids becoming addicted to caffeine; kids who are taking anti-anxiety medication, anti-depressants and mood stabilizers in epic proportions.

Kids not getting sleep or eating.
Speaking of epic proportions: kids cheating and admitting it.

Kids learning to the test and retaining, well, not much.

Kids committing suicide.

Children stressed.

Stress.

.
.is that not a "grown up" experience? Is this not a learned behavior? Turn now a moment to the Tiger Mom story. A self-described authoritarian matriarch, a merciless taskmaster, a monster as described by a handful of incensed parents.
It matters little the exact nature of the extreme measures taken by this mother with her various-aged daughters.

It barely makes sense to give more attention to this abomination of child rearing practices here, but there is an interesting facet to this story that ties into the madness of the Race to Nowhere. The title for that film was taken directly from a students' mouth who said of the condition of the stress and pressure at school that "it's crazy, it's like a race...to.

.

.
nowhere.

" There is a brilliant child.
Somewhere in our perennial search for excellence and desire to maintain some kind of international ranking, we have created a culture that is perpetuating some incredible parenting practices AND sending unrealistic messages to the students about what it takes to be in the race.
And the students, like machines and nothing close to human, are in a race that is devoid of any real meaning, any tangible connection to something other than "the future out there." Time magazine made a statement that the Tiger Mom, in her description of what she describes as "traditional Chinese parenting," has hit hard at a "national sore spot: that sore spot, according to the author's account-- our fears about losing ground to China and other rising powers and about adequately preparing our children to survive in the global economy.

" I repeat.
When will this madness end? Is there a nexus here? Is this really what it all comes down to? If you study hard and take all the AP classes possibly offered, and if you get a 4.
2, and play a sport and participate in a few after school clubs and you do community service and then get into a great college and get a masters and then get into the economy at some super start off point and then climb and climb and accumulate and achieve, you too can assist the U.
S.

to keep it's ground as whatever it is that we are? Is this all for the U.S.

to stay in some absurd position of rank? Is that not the quintessinal race to nowhere? AM I required, by being born here, to partake in this "FEAR" of losing international ground? And that is only half of the fear mentioned.

The other half is the fear of: "not adequately preparing our children to SURVIVE in the global economy".

Does adequate preparation equate to that earlier scenario I described of the automaton student rocketing to the 4.2 summa cum everything? Is the bell curve dead and I'm the last to know? I digress.
What of the notion that our children, adequately prepared, need to learn to SURVIVE in the global economy? Do they even know what that is? Are those words commensurate with a common understanding of a set of values, principles and agreed upon "rules of play?" And is it sensible to teach children how to survive in ANY economy rather than how to THRIVE, anywhere, anyhow, anytime? This is beyond forest through the trees.

WE have gone mad. And I am here to suggest that is GOOD news because it means we get to take this mess we've made and re-create a better paradigm for this quest to co-inhabit and thrive on this planet.
The cat is out of the bag that this notion of super sonic, super-sized, super charged zest for global positioning at all costs, here, largely the human spirit, has run its course.
Partaking in this nonsense will be evidence of a lack of human evolution and consciousness that cannot be possible with all this information and free speech available for the taking.

No big apologies needed here.
It's really OK for this madness to end.
No one is going to get in trouble.
Oh, sure, we may slip in global rank, take a turn in some other place in the global "pack" of animals, but we get to choose a different story now. We get to choose, not have to.
So let's choose that NEW story, a new scenario, one characterized by : soul over mind, curiosity over regurgitation, thriving over surviving, life over death, ease over stress, abundance over scarcity, compassion over hate, slow over fast, courage over fear, heart over all.
The care and feeding of the human spirit reigns high above all other pursuits and offers the foundation for any nation to rise and stand tall, ready to share the "power" from this new base and not squander.
To demonstrate that we are one species on the planet that is sharing space with thousands of others KNOWING there really is room for all of us.

Let's live from a place of KNOWING there is no race and the possibilities for co-existing with each other, in all our machinations, is endless.
Let's play on that playground, shall we?

Gaming Laptops - Modern Trends

Today, the young people - teenagers - have different searches or goals.
Whether they are avid readers or they prefer to do homework, it's easier and more pleasant to choose a modern version of a laptop.

The laptop is a faithful friend of many of us, especially those who like to play games on laptops.
But first of all, it's particularly important to know what a laptop demands from all points of view; I think the most demanding part is the price. Regarding the technical side, we must have deep knowledge in order to buy it according to our needs.

If you want a special design or a different brand, you should definitely know that you must be prepared with a fairly large amount of money.
If not, you will have to limit yourself to the budget that you have. For those who want a gaming laptop, the design is not so important or.

.
.shouldn't be. Quality matters to them.
They need a good configuration.
The video card must be the best, and if you don't know what to choose, it's better to ask an expert, because, in my opinion, the video card is almost everything for gamers.
Without a video card, your patience will suffer, the games will run slowly enough and you will lose all enthusiasm.
So you have to pay attention.

Be careful what you are looking for.
My advice is to search, however, on the internet for any information; it happens that some "experts" are not up to date on the latest technology. Even if we don't really need a gaming laptop, we must have a very good RAM memory and also a strong hard drive. Photos, files, music and video take up space in the computer's hard drive.

Current games can occupy as much as 30+GB of hard drive space and in general, having plenty of free space on your hard drive improves performance and load times.
Less than 320GB is just too small.

There are games that need a high-performance processor, but there are others that work best only with a special hard drive.
Maybe you can't have both, it's important to have one of them. No one who has a passion for games will choose a regular PC instead of an upgraded configuration laptop.
The real advantages that the gaming laptop offers are miles better: webcam, microphone, multi-card reader, USB ports, etc.
There are important factors to consider when we buy a laptop, such as the size, dimensions, and resolution capabilities of a laptop display; 15, 17, 18 or even 20+ inch displays are available on gaming laptops.

Also, the power of a high-end gaming laptop isn't cheap. Generally, manufacturers offer a one year warranty that covers any hardware defects.

It's always necessary to take a look at the option of an extended warranty.

In the future, the computers will disappear surely, because laptops are more practical and in higher demand.
Therefore, if you're thinking about buying a laptop, it's good to be a powerful one.

Best Electric Scooter for 8 Year Old Kids

When I was a child growing up in the beautiful province of British Columbia, the one thing that I wanted the most in life was a bike.

My brother had an awesome decked out CCM two wheeler with a chrome rat trap, front head lamp, and the most crazy sounding horn that every kid on my block dreamed of.
Meanwhile, all that I had was my old clunky three wheel tricycle.
Life was tough. Today's young ones have so many more options when it comes to their first mode of transportation. There are ten speed racers and rugged off road mountain bikes just to name a couple. However, if I were someone's son now, I would want my parents to buy me an electric scooter.

Now that sure would be cool.

So what is the best gas or best electric scooter for kids? You do have a choice when it comes to scooting around.
There are gas and electric models. For me personally, I would choose electric. After all, us new generation kids need to think about the environment. If we do not start to take our planet seriously..
.

there will be little scooting around for anyone.
Most of the major cities are already smogged out.

Plus there are also many other advantages to going green.
So what other advantages could there be when deciding on an electric scooter? Well for one thing, you do not need to mix any smelly oil and gas.
Which also means that you cannot transport them on their side as all of that expensive fossil fuel would leak out over dad's brand new SUV. Imagine how a dad would react to something like that? So what would be the best electric scooter for kids that my old dad could buy for me? After scouring through all of the ads and articles on the Internet, I have decided to encourage my father to buy me the Razor E100.

They also make the models E200 and E300.

However, since I am theoretically only nine years old, I will start with the basics.

My pop will be pleased at my mature decision as I convince him about all of the money he has saved.

The E100 is featured as a small frame and a big ride. It only weighs 120 pounds and is designed for kids eight years and older. It's top speed is about 10 miles per hour...

just enough to scoot past that nasty pit bull that belongs to Mr. Taylor. Plus can you imagine my friend's expressions as I coast into the ballpark on my new electric racing red scooter.
When I get a bit older I will be able to trade my E100 in for an E200.

It goes a bit faster at 12 miles per hour.

The only downside is that it is designed for 13 years old and up.

Or what the heck, maybe I could get dad to buy me the ultimate maximum overdrive E300.

That definitely would be the very best electric scooter for kids. Here's hoping.

What Are Normal Teen Problems and Should You Be Worried?

I have two children, one of which is my 20 year old daughter who experienced her share of teen problems. The other is my son who is now 14 and is certainly giving my husband and I a run for our money.
Some parents will say that girls are easier than boys and some will say the exact opposite.
My opinion on this subject is each individual child is different and they all have their problems.

Teen problems are normal to some degree.

They all seem to hate their parents and want to get as far away from us as possible most of the time. Then the next thing you know they are coming to you crying because something tragic happened and they want you to make everything all better just like you did when they were toddlers.

When your child yells at you and tells you that they hate you, you can rest assure that you are not alone and these are very normal teen problems.

The best way to deal with it is to tell your child in a calm voice that you love them anyway and when they calm down and want to talk normal that you will discuss it then and walk away. They really don't mean what they say.

Part of being a teenager is experiencing teen problems.

They are fighting you and themselves for their independence and unfortunately most of the time without even knowing it your standing in their way.

They are trapped in an unfamiliar body that is growing out of control and flooded with hormones.
Peer pressure is obviously big teen problems. It fortunately is one of the problems that fall into the normal range. I have learned from experience that you can't make the right decisions for your child in this area no matter how badly you want to.
Stay active in your child's life and talk to them as much as you can. They still need your guidance and hopefully with enough love and support they will learn to make decisions that are in their best interest. Hanging out with the wrong crowd is also big teen problems. This one still falls on the fairly normal range. You have no control over these children but they sure seem to have some kind of control over your child.
Children will hang out with those that accept them.

They are becoming their own person and as long as they are not getting into trouble with the law or doing drug then maybe you should let them pick their own friends as hard as that may seem.
Teen problems when I was a kid, a million years ago was talking on the phone.
We didn't have cell phones.

But now it seems every kid has a cell phone and an iPod and a computer and a play station the list could go on forever.
The point is we live in an information age.

I believe that this is making our children smarter, BUT that doesn't mean that they shouldn't have limits set for these things. We need to have social skills and the only way we are going to teach that is through interaction with people.

Most Teen problems are normal. No teenager or parent is immune to this. Stay active in your child's life and make a point of talking to them, guide then, set limits and make sure that your teenager is fully aware of what you expect from them. Set firm rules and consequences and most importantly be consistent.

Strength in Numbers: Students Learn to Love Math

Strength in Numbers Dividing a class into two teams and having them play game of soccer is giving the one with the ball practice with soccer and the rest practice with running.
Often in an elementary math class the teacher gives one question for the entire class to answer.

The question is usually somewhere in the middle of the students' abilities, too hard for some and too easy for others. Even though most of the hands go up, the teacher only picks one student to answer.

It is difficult sometimes to have focus on more than one student.
Imagine watching a substitute teacher doing soccer with a class of grade 5 students.
Mr.

Blackstone divides a class into two teams and has them play a game of soccer.
He is not a physical education specialist and this is the best way he knows to teach soccer.

As you watch, you notice that any given time one player is practicing soccer with a ball and the rest are practicing running.
One way to look at the idea of 'one at a time' is from my experience as a swimming instructor.

While teaching swimming lessons, I've had the chance to try many different types of teaching methods.
Each week I had a new group of swimmers that I could work with, so in a very short time I learned many ways to make the most of our time in the water.
I found discipline was very important as it is impossible to teach a class when the students don't listen. However discipline alone does not mean anyone is learning or that the class is effective.
I watched a senior high gym teacher teach a class of thirty boys how to dive. A fellow lifeguard told me to watch as he really knew how to teach. His approach was simple: every one of the boys waited patiently without disrupting the class while one boy would try his dive. Though it was very impressive to have trained these boys to wait their turn, I wasn't convinced this was the most effective for learning skills. By the end of twenty minutes of a very disciplined class each boy had 'tried' a total of three dives.
Here is a different approach to the same activity.
Have the students make five lines with enough space beside them that it is safe.

The first person dives straight out then returns to the wall. When he touches the second person in line can go while the first is climbing out of the water and going to the back of the line. With all the safety addressed the students can continue practicing their dives with feedback on how to improve. The approach is similar except instead of doing only three dives the boys are able to do over thirty dives or more.
Feedback could be given continuously without disrupting the practice and each swimmer would immediately have a chance to use this to improve.
With five times more practice the swimmers were not just able to 'try' a skill, but develop or improve it. You can't become proficient with just a couple of tries. A basketball player doesn't become good at free throws by trying a couple of them.
An artist doesn't become good at drawing after a few sketches.
A chef doesn't become good at cooking after just a few dishes.

The lecture or explanation of the skills doesn't give them the practice so it doesn't need to be long. People need to build up a number of experiences in order to start having success.

Sure, some people can accomplish something the first time they try it, but to develop, improve or master a skill, hours of repetition are needed and there is no getting around this.

Now, with math there are several ways to give students more practice in class.
Instead of asking one 'middle range' question and only letting one student answer, the teacher puts a few questions on the boards and has all the students answer with colored blocks that correspond to numbers.
Here is an example of this might work with algebra questions: The teacher, Ms.

Greywood explains what algebra is. This isn't the first time they have done it, so the students have an understanding of how to use letters instead of numbers. Before they start she gives each student a set of 10 colored blocks and assigns a color to each one (1-yellow, 2-blue, 3-red, 4-purple, 5-orange, 6-green, 7-brown, 8-black, 9-grey, 0-white).
They students will use these to answer the questions allowing the whole class to answer instead of just one.

The teacher puts 4 questions on the board and gives the students a few minutes to solve.
The students are reminded that the goal is not to finish all of the questions, but to work as far as they can.

Question 1: A + 4 = 9 Teacher: Did anyone figure out question one? What plus four equals nine? Instead of raising hands, the students hold up an orange block to show that the answer is '5'. Each student holds the block in front of their chest so Ms. Greywood can see it but no one else.

She gives smiles, thumbs up's and whispers of 'good job' to those who got it right then picks Sarah, one of the students who struggles, to say the right answer as this might be the only question she gets.
Question 2: A + 5 = 7 + 6 Teacher: Did anyone get the second question? It's a little more difficult. The students hold a black block to show the answer is eight. The teacher takes the time to explain that both sides have to balance, like a scale.

She explains that the right side is thirteen and asks what you add to five to make the left side thirteen too.
Question 3: A + B = 7 A - B = 3 Teacher: Did anyone get the third question? You need to find two numbers that will work in both equations.

Ms.

Greywood asks how many different ways to make seven by adding.

Some students hold up green and yellow for six and one. Others hold up orange and blue for five and two.
A few hold up brown and white for seven and zero.
After recognizing all the right answers Ms.
Greywood asks which one would work for the bottom equation.
Question 4: A X B = 24 A - B = 5 Teacher: If you tried the last one, hold up what you think the answer is.

Ms.

Greywood shows how eight and three would work in both equations.
It can be intimidating for some students if too much time is spent on high level questions.

She smiles as she checks the few students who tried it but quickly moves on to the next set of questions.
Considering how many students were able to answer the questions, Ms. Greywood adds one more question for the next round: A X B = 48 A - B = 13 The class is now excited about algebra.
Each student can work at his or her own level and challenge the next level.

The class is able to do four or five sets of questions in a thirty minute class.

This gives the students enough practice to start having success with algebra.
Both the students have a good idea of what level they are at and this can be shared with the parents.

The next day Ms. Greywood gives the students more opportunities to answer questions.
The students are put into group of three or four.
Similar questions are put on the board, but instead of the teacher explaining the answers, each student is responsible for giving or explaining the answer to the group. Each student can choose which question they want to answer, empowering them with choice and confidence knowing they can answer the question.

They will try to answer different questions, but if they happen to choose the same question, they simply take turns going first each round.
This will give may give them a chance to see and explain the question with different methods or simply validate that their method works. At the end of the week the students will answer a set of algebra questions as well as sets from units they have already covered such as ones based on addition, fractions and perimeter. Since they are now familiar with the levels, they will also have the option of creating a set of questions for the class to try.

Now the students being challenged and are improving as they now have opportunities to truly develop their skills. In this type of environment, you can feel the energy and excitement from students who are engaged.

Here is where you find strength in numbers.

Preparing For College - Using a Distance Learning Private School

In the competitive world of college admissions, today's parents are looking for anything that will allow their children to be on equal ground with the country's best and brightest minds.

In some cases, parents will resort to everything from individual tutoring to supplemental classes in order to better prepare their students for admission and success in college.

For the parent who is homeschooling their child, the most popular option for preparing a child for college comes in the form of enrollment in a distance learning private school.
A distance learning private school often represents the most popular method of preparing a homeschooled child for college.
While parents of traditionally schooled children have to supplement the curriculum their child receives with tutoring and prep courses, parents who elect to enroll their child in a distance learning program can receive a comprehensive program that does all of that and more.
Distance learning private schools come with all of the benefits of a structured and traditional curriculum, but none of the drawbacks and problems of a traditional public and private school. For starters, distance learning private schools, like their traditional counterparts, can deliver lessons that are in line with state and/or national standards.

In fact, many distance learning private schools are officially accredited by the same organizations that accredit and license traditional schools. Distance learning private schools, again like traditional schools, are also staffed by highly-qualified and credentialed teachers that are experts in the particular subject matter they are teaching.
Where the two approaches to education begin to separate is in the environment in which lessons are delivered. While traditional schools are often overcrowded and dangerous, students who attend distance learning private schools deliver their lessons in the comfort and safety of the child's home.

By not having to worry about personal safety or comfort, students can better focus their efforts on learning specific information or a particular lesson.
Since they are not tied down by the same issues and problems that traditional schools suffer from, distance learning programs can focus their efforts on educating students.

Programs of study can be individually tailored to meet the needs of individual students, whether that means altering the pace of the lessons or the material being taught and covered.

By avoiding many of the environmental problems that currently plague most traditional public and private schools and focusing their efforts and attention on education and preparation, distance learning private schools have proven themselves to be extremely effective in preparing students not just for admission into the college of their choice, but for success at that college as well.

Today's distance learning private schools, with their official accreditation, credentialed teachers, and individual and unique approaches to education have placed themselves at the top in terms of the factor that most prepares students for college.
In fact, homeschooled children who have been enrolled in distance learning programs often score higher on standardized tests, and receive admission to the college of their choice at a higher rate than students who attend traditional schools, or children who are homeschooled without the benefits of a distance learning program.

Split-Site PhD - Getting the Best of Research-Based Instruction

UK is one of the forerunners of the innovative split-site PhD which are offered for anyone who would like to pursue higher studies from anywhere the world. A split-site option will allow a person to finish a degree from a host UK university as he works on his thesis on his own country.
Of course, this method requires constant collaboration from the host university from the United Kingdom and the recognized partner university from any part of the globe.
Like other educational institutions, universities offering split-site PhDs require the students to complete masters degree from recognized institutions in the UK or in other accredited universities in different countries.

Others accept students who finished an undergraduate degree with honours or even a recognized academic professional merit, but all of these minimum requirements is dependent on the university offering split-site PhD courses.
Unlike a standard online PhD degree where a student submits requirements through the internet, a split-site option would require him to stay in the premises of the host university, and the schedule is dependent on the required number of hours stated in his program.

The student will independently be working on his research while he is not in the premises of the UK host institution.
Even though the requirements of obtaining a split-site PhD is more grueling than a standard degree, students can be rest assured that they will get the quality instruction offered by the host UK institution working in collaboration with the accredited home university of their choice.

10 Ways to Demonstrate to Your Parents That You Are All Grown Up

Why They Think You're Still a Child If you want your parents to realize that you are now a fully functioning adult person who does not need to be tucked in, hand held or nurtured any longer; then you are ready to learn 10 steps to gently but firm make them aware of the person you are now. In order to be patient with this process remember that they have known you since you were 19 or so inches long, helpless and could do nothing but the most basic bodily involuntary functions.
That vulnerable beginning made a lasting impression on them which is hard to erase.

It might be best to strive for an updated version of that little human being, because erasure is probably not possible.
Ten Steps: 1) Speak to them frequently.

Express your feelings about the future, hopes, dreams, current aspirations, challenges, and perhaps even a five-year-plan for advancement, to reach your goals. 2) Take them out to dinner, if possible, or do something as a family.
Pay for whatever the activity is, instead of having them pay.

If you live a distance away, threat them to a trip to your new location. Let them see that you wish to include them in the life you're building, now that you are on your own. 3) Let go of the endearing names you called them when you were a child, like "mommy" and "daddy".

"Mom" and "dad" sounds better coming from their twenty-something (or older) son or daughter, and when you treat them as adults, they will see that you have truly matured. 4) Discuss politics, economic trends, the "Dow", and health issues that are currently topical, and demonstrate your varied interests, opinions and knowledge of the real world.
5) Listen to your parents. You don't have to agree with their point of view, but really listen. Show them that you respect their life experiences and values. 6) If you need advice, ask them. They have lived long enough to know many life lessons. Also, if they don't have an answer for you, they will probably know who to ask or where to seek qualified information. Don't assume that because the world has changed drastically in recent years, that your parents aren't constantly learning and keeping current.

People live much longer now, and stay productive and involved.
Information is easily accessible for everyone, and their need to know is integral to their well-being, just like you. 7) Help your parents stay involved by encouraging them to learn new skills, such as blogging, speaking a second language, joining a travel club, or any other challenging activity.

They will be happier, healthier, and your interest in them is selfless and another sign of maturity, yours! 8) If you find yourself having to discuss controversial issues like you choice of political party, or why you aren't seeing a certain person that they both know and like, anymore; try to discuss this touchy stuff from your perspective, but without getting too emotional, or being disrespectful and defensive. Controlling these feelings and being open and truthful, is reassuring for parents, who are prone to worry when they don't understand the reasoning for pivotal choices or decisions you've made. 9) Set boundaries about things you are not comfortable discussing and subjects which are too private and personal to share.

Again, this kind of courteous, but somewhat limiting behavior lets them know that you value yourself and your privacy as an adult.

10) Finally, and most importantly tell them often that you love and value them as parents, as people, and as human beings.
Hug them, look into their eyes and listen to them.
Results If you want to connect on a truly adult level, let your actions, and interest in them, show your parents that you are a mature, intelligent, value-oriented adult.
